I'm incredibly happy to hear about the merge.

However, I then see, in the same post:

...what? I don't see the obvious reasons; it seems to me as though such a 
decision can only really be made for pride and/or psychological reasons, and 
that worries me since I think that pride had its role to play in the original 
split. I've also spoken to people in a few channels on IRC and they seem 
equally baffled by such a decision.
